Territorial Land Acknowledgement
The Culture Alliance has created this territorial acknowledgment for the Heart of Georgian Bay region and grants permission to those in our area to adopt and use it as their own.
Territorial Acknowledgement for
the Heart of Georgian Bay
The Heart of Georgian Bay has been an important homeland to, and gathering place for, Indigenous people for thousands of years. We acknowledge that this place on earth has been here since before our creation and that all living things on earth, in the water, and in the air are our relatives and our equals. With its landscape as a teacher and water for its life, we learn, share, and live on these traditional lands.

We acknowledge that we share the responsibility to protect and preserve our first Mother, the earth, and ensure that she is here for future generations.

This is the traditional and Treaty territory of the Anishinabek people, now known as the Chippewa Tri-Council comprised of Beausoleil First Nation, Rama First Nation, and the Georgina Island First Nation. This territory is within the pre-confederation Treaty 5 and Treaty 16, and included within the Williams Treaties of 1923. The Heart of Georgian Bay was once the traditional territory of the Wendat and is now home of many Indigenous people including the Anishinabek and many Métis citizens.

We respectfully acknowledge that we are the stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters, and that we continue to maintain this responsibility to ensure their health and integrity for generations to come.

Depuis des milliers d’années, le Cœur de la baie Georgienne est un important territoire et lieu de rassemblement des peuples autochtones. Nous reconnaissons que cet endroit sur la planète existe depuis bien avant notre création et que tous les êtres vivants sur la terre, dans l’eau et dans l’air sont nos proches et nos égaux. Avec le paysage comme enseignant et l’eau comme source de vie, c’est sur ces terres traditionnelles que nous apprenons, partageons et habitons.

Nous reconnaissons que nous partageons la responsabilité de protéger et de conserver notre première mère, la Terre, et de garantir qu’elle existe pour les générations futures.

C’est ici le territoire traditionnel et de Traité du peuple Anishinabek, aujourd’hui connu sous le nom du Conseil tripartite des Chippewas composé de la Première nation Beausoleil, de la Première nation Rama et de la Première nation de Georgina Island. Ce territoire est dans la région visée par le Traité 5 et le Traité 16, antérieurs à la confédération, et est compris dans les Traités Williams de 1923. Le Cœur de la baie Georgienne était autrefois le territoire traditionnel de la nation Wendat et compte aujourd’hui un grand nombre de peuples autochtones, y compris les Anishinabek et beaucoup de métisse .

Nous reconnaissons respectueusement que nous sommes les intendants et gardiens de ces terres et des eaux, et que nous continuons à maintenir cette responsabilité afin d’en garantir la santé et l’intégrité pour les générations à venir.
